This will be a special Livestream concert on location from the fantastic White Horse in Black Mountain, one of our favorite concert venues in the Asheville region and one of the birthplaces of AmiciMusic. Bob Hinkle has built an incredible music venue with a wide range of top quality music in many genres. We are grateful to have been performing classical music in this old Chevrolet dealership for almost ten years now with close to 100 different concerts there. In these difficult times, venues such as these are in grave danger of going under so we are happy to be a part of the White Horse Livestream. Please donate generously to this incredible place for live (and now Livestream) music!
This concert will include some incredible solo piano works by some sadly neglectedwomen composers. As always, I promise to include some illuminating stories about the composers prior to every piece and describe the difficulties that these women had in getting their musical voices heard. We also feature two African-American women on this program—Florence Price and Margaret Bonds—as part of AmiciMusic and the White Horse’s mission of giving a voice to minority composers as we support the Black Lives Matter movement. I am also hoping that my beautiful twin girls, Emma and Sophie, (now 14!) might be able to showcase their “women’s voices” a little on this concert and sing a couple showtunes. Hope you can join me online live from White Horse!
