“Breaking Winds” features the debut of Asheville’s new and exciting Wind Ensemble comprised of some of the top musicians from the Asheville Symphony, Brevard Philharmonic, Hendersonville Symphony, Greenville Symphony and Knoxville Symphony orchestras. Directed by clarinetist Steve Loew, “Breaking Winds” will revive some fantastic, but forgotten wind music that was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, but has been lost in modern times due to financial constraints. For this concert, the group will perform Mozart’s Octet in E Flat Major and will also be joined by pianist/Artistic Director for Mozart’s lyrical Piano Quintet. Finally, the Asheville Clarinet Choir, composed of clarinets of all shapes and sizes, will also be featured in a performance of a movement from Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and music by some of Mozart’s lesser-known contemporaries such as Stamitz and Pleyel.
