“JEWISH BROADWAY”
Great Broadway Songs by Jewish Composers

Songs from the Jewish Golden Age:
Berlin, Kern, Arlen, & Gershwin

January 9, 2022

We start the New Year off with a sequel to one of our favorite concerts of 2021, “Broadway Violin.”  In this toe-tapping program, Tim Schwarz, violin, and Daniel Weiser, piano/Artistic Director will perform all new fantastic arrangements of great Broadway songs, all by Jewish composers from the Golden Years (1920s-1940s).   Tap your feet and hum along to music by Irving Berlin (“Cheek to Cheek,” “Blue Skies”);  Jerome Kern (“All the Things You Are”, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”);  Cole Porter (“Begin the Beguine,” “Just One of those Things”);  and George Gershwin (“Love is Here to Stay,” “S’Wonderful”).   Take a wonderful trip down memory lane to a time when the great Jewish songwriters ruled Broadway!

Check out this video of Richard Rodgers’ song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel with Tim and Dan performing on a previous concert:

Baltimore Hebrew Congregation

Join us for another wonderful free “Music and Meaning” program at the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, a series made possible with a generous donation from the Peggy and Yale Gordon Trust.  Celebrate the coming of what has to be a much better year with a really fun and educational program that reveals the story of the early great Broadway songwriters, most of whom were either Jewish immigrants themselves or first generation Jews who would ultimately help to produce the quintessentially American sound of Broadway.

Because of the Omicron surge, this concert will now only be a Livestream.

To join the BHC Livestream, please visit:  https://bhc.livecontrol.tv/ at 3:00 on Sunday, January 9.
