NOTE: This concert was originally scheduled to be at the Jewish Educational Alliance, but they had to postpone it (hopefully will now be on January 17).  Our good friends, Rick and Chris, have stepped in to host a house concert at their wonderful place on the most beautiful street in Savannah—Jones Street.  Hope you can be there with us!

AmiciMusic presents a very fun program entitled “JEWISH BROADWAY.”  Singer Cass Panuska, who recently moved to Savannah, will join pianist and Artistic Director Daniel Weiser in a toe-tapping showcase of some wonderful Broadway music composed by Jewish composers.   As Sir Robin sings in the Monty Python musical, Spamalot, “you won’t succeed on Broadway if you don’t have any Jews.”  Most of the early Broadway composers (Berlin, Kern, Arlen, Gershwin, etc) were Jews, often first-generation immigrants who essentially helped to create “the American musical”.   Indeed, the most famous non-Jewish composer,  Cole Porter, once admitted to Richard Rodgers that he had discovered the secret to writing hits—“I need to write more Jewish tunes.”   This program will include favorite songs by Arlen, Gershwin, Bernstein, Sondheim, Loesser, Kern, and more.  You won’t want to miss this great afternoon of fantastic songs from Broadway!

Here is Lena Horne singing “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man” from Jerome Kern’s Showboat:
