“LATIN CELLO”

Exciting music from Latin America including works by
Villa-Lobos, Guastavino, Ponce, Piazzolla, and more

April 15-17, 2022

Brazilian cellist Diego Carneiro makes his AmiciMusic debut in this terrific program that takes us on a journey around Latin America with some neglected works by Heitor Villa-Lobos (Brazil), Manuel Ponce (Mexico), Eduardo Florencia (Ecuador), Astor Piazzolla (Argentina), and more.  Carneiro currently lives in Ecuador where he has started an amazing orchestra made up mostly of student refugees from Venezuela.  He also brings his music into refugee camps and impoverished areas of Latin America.  His student orchestra has received money from the United Nations and numerous other good-will organizations around the world.  We are excited to introduce him to Asheville audiences and hope you will learn more about his incredible story as a musical ambassador.  Below is a video of Maestro Carneiro conducting his wonderful student orchestra.  Enjoy!
