On Mother’s Day weekend, please join AmiciMusic as we celebrate one more time with some glorious music by sadly neglected women composers. One year ago, we did our first pandemic Livestream on Mother’s Day and we thought we should now do a sequel as the light at the end of the tunnel grows stronger. We certainly hope to be back to regular in-person concerts by the fall. This program will feature the wonderful Borowsky siblings—Emmanuel on violin and Frances on cello—who will join me again to perform movements from piano trios by Helene Liebmann, Clara Schumann, Cecile Chaminade, and Louise Farrenc. We will also do short pieces by Amy Beach, Luisa LeBeau, and Mel Bonis. All of these women struggled to get their musical voices heard, often doubting their own abilities when they received little support and approval for their efforts. As Fanny Mendelssohn once wrote, “If nobody ever offers an opinion or takes the slightest interest in one’s productions, one loses in time not only all pleasure in them, but all power of judging their value.”
