“RAGTIME to RHAPSODY”
The Birth of the American Sound

Piano Works by Joplin, Berlin, Gershwin & more

June 4, 2022

Join Artistic Director and pianist Daniel Weiser for this journey back in time to the first few decades of the 20th century when the new American sound was born and New York City became a cultural center for the world.   Hear the stories and music of composers such as Scott Joplin, Irving Berlin, and George Gershwin as well as some lesser known composers—Ted Mossman, Louis Alter, and Dana Suesse–who all wrote music utilizing this exciting new syncopated and jazzy idiom that seemed to echo the new urban energy and metropolitan madness.   Ragtime, the Blues, and Jazz were born and quickly disseminated into homes across the country and the world as America became a great new center of musical vitality.   Join Dr. Weiser as he performs numerous piano works and tell humorous stories about the music and the composers!
