AmiciMusic is a chamber music organization based in Asheville, NC and Baltimore, MD, dedicated to performing the highest quality chamber music in intimate venues and non-traditional spaces. We are committed to breaking down barriers between performers and audiences by setting up a more relaxed and informal atmosphere at concerts and through informative talks about each composer’s life before each piece is played.
This thrilling program highlights powerful early piano trios by two of our greatest composers—Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms. Though both men were only in their 20’s when they wrote these pieces, the works display an incredible passion and power that showcase their amazing talents even at very early ages. Beethoven’s Opus 1, no. 3 trio in C Minor was a revolutionary work that shocked his teacher, Haydn, and helped propel young Ludwig into the forefront of Viennese society. Ultimately, Beethoven would help lead music into the new Romantic age, with its greater emphasis on individual emotions and greater contrasts in mood and sound to mirror the changing forces in society after the French Revolution. Sixty years later, young Brahms would burst on the musical scene, a “chosen one” as Schumann described him, “over whose cradle graces and heroes stood guard.” Brahms would take up Beethoven’s legacy and produce his incredible B Major Trio, Op. 8 at the age of 21, filled with some of the most beautiful melodies in the entire repertoire and a profound dramatic sense that reveal his Romantic genius. Together, these pieces highlight youthful passion, vigor, and intensity and the supremely creative drive of two amazing composers.
