Daniel Rich, Baritone

Daniel Rich, Baritone, has enjoyed early success not only as an emerging opera singer but as a recitalist and concert artist.  He was recently selected to join the very prestigious Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at The Metropolitan Opera.  He has performed with organizations such as Opera Ebony, DC Strings Workshop, Brooklyn Ecumenical, South East Queens Ecumenical, Three on 3, CAAPA, NANM, and Harlem Opera Theater, amongst others.  Mr. Rich made his Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist in Vaughan-Williams’ Serenade to Music under the baton of Maestro Leonard Slatkin for the MSM Centennial Gala.

Daniel is a winner of the 2016 Harlem Opera Theater Vocal Competition, The 2018 Mario Lanza Institute Vocal Competition, The B-Sharp Chapter of NANM’s 2019 Marian Anderson Vocal Competition and the 2019 Opera Ebony Benjamin MatthewsVocal Competition. Also, he was the 2018-2019 recipient of the Edgar Foster Daniels Scholarship in Voice at MSM.

Last year, Daniel gave several Spirituals and Art Song Recitals, a Masterclass at Delaware State University, was in residency with Opera Delaware in their Young Artist Program, performed in recital for The Walters Art Museum as well as concerts for Opera Delaware and Maryland Opera. February 2021, he created and performed in a virtual production entitled, Here’s One: A Black History Production that featured & celebrated the art of the Spiritual.

In the Spring of 2021, Daniel performed in a workshop version of Rhiannon Giddens’ opera Omar for The Spoleto Festival and was in residency with Opera Ithaca, as the character Brian, for a workshop performance of Sally Lamb McCune’s opera We Wear the Sea like A Coat.  Mr. Rich was an Artist-In Residence with Capital Singers of Trenton for 2021-2022; Performing as Baritone soloist for their performances of the Brahms Ein Deutches Requiem (May 2021), Handel’s The Messiah (December 2021), and giving a recital at Cathedral of The Sacred Heart (Spring 2022).

Mr. Rich is an alumnus of Morgan State University, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Music (May 2017) and studied, respectively, with Mr. Vincent Stringer and Ms. Marquita Lister. He is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned his Master of Music degree (May 2019) and studied in the voice studio of Mr. Mark Oswald. Daniel has studied in the private studio of Mr. Luis Ledesma (Curtis/AVA) and currently studies privately with Ms. Marquita Lister.
